Went here with my celiac friend and we had the BEST experience ever. The bread had a perfect texture and flavor and the pastries were also so juicy and satisfying!! The workers were nice and the atmosphere was blue (literally) and friendly. A MUST for celiacs when visiting Berlin!

Everything is gluten-free and very good and tasty. The cheesecake is especially delicious. The staff is friendly and very helpful. However, be careful of the unmarked threshold at the bar, which is a dangerous trip hazard.

Nice place and great vibe, so wonderful there’s a fully gluten free bakery! Only a couple of vegan sweet options (oat cakes and banana bread) but at least most of their breads (which really looks good!) are vegan :)

Dedicated gluten free bakery, great for people with celiacs. A good spot for a bakery item or to get a loaf of bread. Wouldn’t recommend for a meal (they did not have any sandwiches when we went). I got the savory scone. Tasted great, I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor and texture.

I really wanted to try the gluten-free pastries here, so I ordered a cinnamon roll and a coffee. What a disappointment it was when I tried the cinnamon roll. It was so sweet that it felt like 70% of it was just sugar, and the dough was so soggy and gummy that it was hard to separate a piece with a spoon. I understand that gluten-free baking is difficult, but this was a complete failure. If it didn’t turn out well, please don’t put it up for sale. Maybe their other pastries are tasty, but I absolutely cannot recommend the cinnamon roll. The coffee, by the way, was very delicious.

We’ve been here three times in four days. Everything here is gluten-free (made on gf oats?). They have some amazing cinnamon rolls (but only on the weekends) and also a pretty good brownie and cookies. They also have vegan friendly options, both food and drinks.

The most incredible gluten free bakery ever. I’m from Sydney where there are plenty of options but WOW this was beyond amazing. I literally came here everyday with my boyfriend (who is not celiac) and he was so impressed with how similar all the products were to non-gluten free things. Genuinely I am so sad these guys aren’t in Sydney - I would recommend to everyone!!! Also the staff were so lovely :)

Shhh don't tell anyone it's gluten free. Seriously, I don't think half the people who come in realize, and that pretty incredible. The quality of the bread is as good as anything from Zeit for Brot. My only suggestion would be weekday breakfast. Egg and cheese breakfast sandwitch? I would eat one everyday before going into the co-working space next door.

Grilled cheese is AMAZING. A bit expensive, but that’s normal for gluten free places. We also recommend the cheddar scone, very moist.

I like coming here because I can't eat gluten or drink lactose and the chocolate brownie is spectacular. But the last few times, there's a girl who has done everything wrong for me, she prepared my matcha with milk and the next day instead of a cappuccino with oat milk she took me a glass of oat. I won't be going back there again, sorry.

For people with gluten sensitivities, Aera is a godsend. The breads and buns are virtually indistinguishable from their gluten-laden counterparts. We bought a variety for a picnic, had them with cheese, and they were delicious even for my friends who do not avoid gluten. We also had the grilled cheese sandwich on site, and it was excellent: crispy, melty, with a perfect balance of sundried tomatoes and rosemary. As an added bonus, the coffee was pretty good too.

Obsessed with Aera. The grilled cheese is so good I came back the next day for another. Great for coeliacs, vegans and everyone. They also seem to supply other Berlin cafes with bread so you can often use that to find great options for brunch like Silo. Their basque cheesecake and white choc and cherry cookies are just off the scale good!

The staff are as excited to talk about gluten free food as I am to eat it. Great costumer service and amazing bread. I do wish they had more desserts with less sugar or maple syrup sweetened things. But it is still a fantastic place.

I always come at least twice to a spot to build a proper opinion. Unfortunately almost everything I tried was not tasty at all. It is very hard to find gluten free food, and I’m very happy there are more spots opening up. It could be also a matter of taste, but one thing I know for sure: banana bread is not supposed to be dry, not a single cheese sandwich can be left halfway. The texture and the flavour is just not there for me. I liked a buckwheat chocolate cookie even though I’m not a chocolate lover. But it’s not enough to come back here 😢 I think most of celiac people are just happy there’s at least something around because we really struggle. But I rather drink a sesame latte and skip the pastry next time.

The place is completely gluten-free; there is a wide selection of bread, some types of biscuits and cakes. For lunch, except for some oat sandwiches with tomato, salad and cheese, you can only have a sandwich with grilled cheese, rosemary and dried tomatoes. The cheese can also be replaced with a vegan cream. The sandwich costs €12, but it is absolutely not worth it! The service is not very friendly, and almost all the products are oat-based, which although gluten-free is not tolerated by all celiacs! I do not recommend this place.

One of the highly-rated bakeries for gluten-free options in Berlin. The pastries were just okay for me, but the bread was wonderful. I tried the Saftkorn, and it was great – the taste, texture, and form were excellent.

It was here that I learned gluten-free pastry can actually be delicious. Cheese sandwich is very tasty, truly comforting, but a little too oily for me. Their ERA bread, ciabatta, fruit galette, Amaretti & Schokokipferl cookies are to die for. The coffee a great as well - how about a cappuccino on GF oat milk? Oh, and they are the winners of Berlin’s Best Smelling Toilet Award.

Everything here is gluten free! My brother and I came in and got a pastry, a couple of coffees and 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. 1st the coffee is excellent, 2nd the pastry was so good, 3rd the Grilled cheese was incredible and also way bigger than I expected. The baristas were so nice! All in all a wonderful experience!

AERA is THE place to be if you’re looking for freshly baked gluten-free bread, pastries and homemade granola. You can enjoy them to stay over a good coffee or unique, surprisingly tasteful tea blend or take them to go and enjoy them elsewhere. I am a regular customer here and I absolutely love the bakery! I have tried a lot of glutenfree bakeries in Berlin and so far, this one has convinced me the most in terms of bread and affordability. There is only one bread that I cannot recommend and if you look to the negative reviews you can see that they all had this particular bread type: the Aera bread. It is the prettiest, which is probably why most people go for that one but the reviews are right. I had it twice and both times it had big holes and you basically could not cut it because it fell apart on its own. Feel free to skip that one and go for the other bread types which are all great! My favorite one is the Mischbrot, followed by the Saftkorn and then the Kurfürstenbrot. Note: On Fridays they sell the Kurfürstenbrot "with spices" and it doesn't specify which spices: They put coriander seeds and caraway (Kümmel) in there. So if you don't like coriander seeds (like me) or caraway, maybe skip the Kurfürstenbrot on Fridays. Other than that, the banana bread is also outerworldly if you're looking for something sweet and I could kill for the fruit galette they sell.

We got the grilled cheese and it was gooey cheesy GF heaven like literally SO DAMN GOOD the cheese and bread was perfect. The bread also tastes exactly like normal bread and feels so good. Yum yum yum!!!!! We also got the lemon poppy seed cookie and the apple galette - so damn good too. Cute vibe in here as well. Highly recommend it ALLL!!

I’m sorry but this is one of the most disappointing meals I’ve ever bought. I bought a vegan grilled cheese sandwich to go… the bread was stuck to the paper in the box, and the amount of cheese was an abomination. I ended up trying to take out over half the cheese because there was so much it was sickly. Also the sandwich was dripping in grease! It was also card payment only. The woman who served me was nice, I’m sorry to leave such a terrible review but this was really bad. (Since writing this, I discovered ‘Jute Bakerei ‘ in Berlin which is absolutely amazing! Jute is definitely the best place to go for Gluten Free food!)

Have now tried most of the gluten free bakeries and cafes listed in online guides over Berlin. Unfortunately none of the places ace in every aspect. My favorites have been Oshione and Aera and Lovebirds which is quite close to Aera and offer some very tasty pizzas. The thing about Aera that I like the most is the quality of the bread. Tried the grilled sandwich as well as a handful of sweets. I find that the gluten free bakeries here in Berlin oftentimes try too hard to be the healthy alternatives and as such the pastries are not sweet enough for my preference. That said, Aera is well worth a visit if you're looking for gluten free baked goods.

This gluten free cafe is a dream for a celiac! The grilled cheese sandwich is really delicious and well made, the treats like the cheese cake and cookies are really delicious which is a great treat to have. The gluten free beer they make is also very good. The outdoor space is really charming and a lovely place to read a book and enjoy your grilled cheese and beer. The interior is also very industrial but cool. The staff was very nice and multilingual. Even if you are not gluten-free I would recommend the place as the food and coffee are really delicious.

GET THE GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH. This is one of my favorite foods in the city. Sometimes they are sold out so make this your mission if you are in Berlin. Everything else is amazing too! They sell beautiful loaves and can slice them for you. (All gluten free!)

I was very disappointed with the scones today. They are dry, they are pricey and they rly taste not good. The oatcookie was totally average and the coffee was brewed too hot. I never write bad revies honestly but I live as a cealiac since more than 17 years and glutenfree food does not have to taste like that at all. I believe it tastes this weird because they don’t use yeast, when I wonder why not use good quality yeast. Sorry very dissatisfied. Last time I trief some pastry, which was also not nice. Sorry guys:/

Stunning gluten free bakery in Berlin with some vegan options as well. It is a shame that they don’t have many options without oat or buckwheat flour, as many celiacs still react to these grains. Nevertheless, the bakery is always clean, the workers are incredibly kind, helpful, and always make my day.

As someone trying to limit gluten intake, it’s really nice to have this place in the neighbourhood. Some reviews suggest it seems hipster or expensive - but the point of this place is gluten-free! And there’re not many places in Berlin that do great* gluten-free breads and pastries (*those not loaded with full of sugar, preservatives etc eg Supermarket gluten free products)

The staff at this cafe & bakery is super friendly and helpful, the interior design with its all cornflower blue walls and floor and high quality wooden furniture is stellar, but the actual products that are offered here -- the all gluten-free bread and desserts - are really not that good, even for GF standards. Last time I visited, I got a scone that looked really delicious on the counter, but once I started to eat it, I found it more difficult to drill my fork into said scone than the last time when I had to install curtain rods on the concrete walls in my living room. The dough is just extremely dry, tough and crumbly and even though you're already being used to baked goods with "interesting" textures as someone following a GF diet, the food options offered here still make you wonder if it'd be better to stay hungry. For anyone visiting Berlin-Mitte and looking forward to some gluten-free bread, cookies or desserts I'd recommend them to skip this one and check out e.g. Jute-Baeckerei at U Eberswalder Strasse instead (just 3 tram stops away from here) - their bakery is also all gluten-free, has a much wider range of dine-in and take-away products and their bread *actually* tastes good! Again, AERA has a nice vibe and super friendly service, but I really can't give it more than 2 stars with the way the products taste as of now.

The place has a minimalist vibe, the staff was nice and they have gluten free options! For some reason, when I visited it was very hot inside which may make it too hot for the warmer weather. However, they have some seating options outside too.

As someone with Celiac, Aera has very much improved my time in Berlin. Their classic sourdough loaf is some of the best GF bread I’ve had, and I have tried it all :) Anyone making disparaging comments about the store or the bread is probably not GF or Celiac. They need to realize that GF food is not a “hipster phenomenon”, it’s a medical necessity for some people. Aera is doing an important service to the community by serving delicious food to people who are often left out. 🖤

The bread is not good and does not taste like much- if you know a good sour dough bread or rye bread. It can’t compete with it. The size of the ciabatta bread is ridiculous for the amount you pay. On the opposite the cakes and granola are quite strongly seasoned with the same spice mix . The ginger cake was as sweet as biting into a piece of sugar and the taste of ginger overall a bit too much, though I normally love ginger. This over sweet taste takes away the fact that it’s supposed to be better for you than normal bread. The granola looks very appealing and has the same spice mix as the ginger cake. It is less sweet, but it was way over salted. I don’t know If it was an unlucky batch and someone got the dose wrong or if it’s always so salty… in my opinion it doesn’t hold up to the reviews. But if you want to swing by for the hype then you should do so. Two stars for the idea to offer a gluten free only product line and the hip branding. But I don’t think in general it’s good bread and the taste worth any hype.

The great: the grilled cheese is by a long shot the best I ever had. They also have clearly labeled gluten-free versions of most of their products on display. The bad: it’s also the most expensive grilled cheese I ever had, clocking in at 9€. It’s an upscale and very hipster bakery that does quality products - their bread and cookies are quite good - but are all at tourist-level prices. Rundown: I would definitely have the grilled cheese at least once just for the taste, but don’t feel compelled to also have one of their tiny 2€ cookies on the side.

No respect to customers. Between holidays in December people who eat gluten free can’t go out and to eat something. They’re googling in hope that maybe some of their places in Berlin is open. And here comes AERA. All the other places on Google are showing that they’re closed. And they’re happy travelling there almost 1 hour… It is cold and they’re dreaming to get some grilled cheese with hot tea… and then they arrive and AERA is closed (and even on their door there is no information regarding their working hours during the holiday period). Guys, come on. It’s 2022. Every restaurant must keep its working hours in the most used maps services or at least make posts on Instagram.

I have been excited to try this place and finally got a chance last weekend as I was passing through the neighbourhood. Bought a loaf of bread and a bag of their house-made granola, and both were amazingly tasty and high-quality. I've been gluten-free for a couple of years now and still struggle to find nice bakery options in Berlin, so I'll definitely be returning to Aera to sample more of their wares - just wish they had a location a little nearer to me in the east ;-)
