I was really let down by Spago in Brussels, mainly due to the food quality. The atmosphere is pretty nice here; there is a large bar area and plenty of seating, so I didn’t feel uncomfortable as a solo diner at all, but I didn’t have a great experience here overall. I found the service to be unattentive, and I did experience long waits to order and pay. I was disappointed with my food too. I went for the gluten-free carbonara, and the portion was huge — there was way too much pasta for one portion to manage, and it felt like it could be split across two people. The pasta was so bland, the meat was low quality, and it felt like it could have been a children’s or microwave meal. I did enjoy my sparkling iced tea, but this was a bottled Lipton version, although I appreciated how they gave me a glass with ice and lemon to go with it. It was a little pricey here but not much more than other places nearby. Certainly, for the quality of the food, you’re massively overpaying. I didn’t have a good time here overall and unfortunately would be unlikely to return.
