No menu in the cafe for the food, no prices on the product labels of the food in the case, no napkins, no stevia or other sweeteners other than sugar in one container (is it sanitary?) and slow wifi. The one staff member didn't really know what was in the beef empanada. She said there was cheese in it which I found odd in a classic Argentine-style empanada so she checked with the cook who said there was no cheese. Latte was too tepid (and I don't like them hot) and tasted a bit odd. And the empanada was light on the amount of meat, it had chunks of garlic in there meaning the cook didn't mix it well before baking, and it wasn't nuked long enough so I asked for 20 more seconds. Worse of all was the bathroom being closed. A cafe that serves coffee (that is a diuretic) should always have a working restroom. I left and had to go to a couple other places to finally find a restroom I could use (far from Capital Hill). Nearly peed my pants but luckily got to a toilet in time. Such a shame that this cafe is missing so many marks as I appreciate visiting gluten free places.

I stopped into the Capitol Hill store last Tuesday (9/23) to order a cake for my partner’s (who has celiac disease) birthday to be picked up Saturday (9/27) an 8 inch red velvet cake. I honestly am pretty disappointed in how the cake came out. When I received it I immediately thought that it didn’t look like red velvet cake at all, and I’d see red velvet cake in the shop before that looked completely different. I asked the person working at the time of pickup and they confirmed that it was red velvet. I took the cake home and served it just a few hours later. It was hard and very dry. we felt that it had been made too long, maybe even days before and just kept in their fridge. The top layer of frosting was so dry it cracked apart as we cut it. We’ve had many, many gluten free/vegan cakes before and none of them were like this. On top of that the cake was certainly not red velvet and tasted nothing like red velvet. Of the 8 people I served the cake to, all of them agreed that it tasted nothing like red velvet. I’m upset considering this was quite an expensive cake for the size. On top of all this, the worker in the store said I “probably couldn’t get a refund because” I “ordered in store and non online” has anyone ever heard of that?? Lastly I brought up the red velvet not being that and described it to the person working and they said “yeah that’s the red velvet, it’s just how we make it” so, I guess you can’t trust that the flavor your order is what you’re going to get here, and they don’t care what you think.
