Modern Bread and Bagel is one of my favorite places on earth. I have been to all of the NYC locations and had the privilege of meeting the owner and begging her to come to Colorado. The food is impeccable, 100% gluten free and oat-free, and safe for even the most severe celiacs (me!). My father, a lifelong gluten-eater, said it was one of the best bagels he had ever had. I have never had a bad item at a modern. Highly recommend the strawberry donuts. Everyone is so friendly, and they graciously put up with my reassurance-seeking about gluten-free. I have actually flown to NYC just for these bakeries/restaurants. This is a 100% worth it place for all people, and I feel so privileged that places like these exist and give celiacs a sense of normalcy. Big thank you to Modern Bread and to Orly (the owner) for making such great food, and having it be safe for celiacs!!!

My wife and I visited New York for the second time, and we had to stop by Modern Bread and Bagel. They are the best for gluten-free bagels and more. Their menu is excellent even for those with other food allergies. Their bagels are delicious in any way you prepare them, the salads are fantastic, and you can enjoy the best sweet treats with their various baked goods. We had the bagel with salmon and all the toppings, the special bagel of the month with salmon and avocado, and the sweet pumpkin and chocolate bread. This place is conveniently located near Central Park and the Museum of Natural History. The staff is very friendly, and the service is quick.

The best gluten-free bagel you'll find. They truly stand up against gluten-free alternatives. Fantastic people doing great things for those seeking gluten-free treats! Thank you!

This is the best GF bagels I have ever had! Ate an amazing bagel on lox for the first time in a dozen years. Approved GF bagels from my celiac 5 year old. Sandwiches were devoured and loved by my non GF family. I cannot recommend this place enough!! Staff was efficient, kind, and friendly! Absolute MUST go!! Sweet tooth? Get the donuts!

I found another great addition to my ongoing search for bagels in New York. They offer a variety of hot sandwiches, open bagels, and baked goods. Their bagels are incredibly soft. A big plus: everything is gluten-free, with customization options for vegan and dairy-free diets. But even if you don't follow a gluten-free or dairy-free diet, this place is still fantastic. The shop was full over the weekend, but the line moved quickly, and we received our orders in 10 minutes. Their downtown locations are conveniently close to museums, galleries, and Central Park. *Farmer's Garden $13.5 An open bagel with heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, crunchy capers, basil, and dill. I chose a sesame bagel with chive cream cheese, which paired perfectly with a drizzle of olive oil. It was super refreshing. Compared to the tomato bagel from Apollo Bagels, which I also enjoyed for its crispy sourdough base, this one was much softer. Both are great in their own way, but this version was lighter and juicier. *G’Day Mate $10.5 *The Big Show $11.5 The G’Day Mate was topped with harissa aioli, which I really appreciated for its spicy touch, while The Big Show was their vegan version of a classic SEC bagel, made with vegan sausage. The portions were generous. The bagels were definitely filling, but not excessively large like other New York bagels. We often find New York bagels a bit too big for one sitting.

I came here at 10:28 on a late October Sunday. From the time we got in line to when we received the receipt, it was an hour wait. We also had bagel lox and spread sandwiches. It came with tomato, arugula, and pickled onion. My boyfriend took everything, and I had the sesame. I thought everything was better - more flavor. If you prefer a milder-tasting bagel, you can choose the sesame between the two. For gluten-free bagels, these were some of the chewiest I've ever had. The vegan cream cheese was also very good: texture, flavor, and creaminess. For the 'sweet' I tried the double chocolate zucchini bread, which is also vegan. It was phenomenal. Super chocolatey and moist. I highly recommend this if you like chocolate baked goods.

DREAM PLACE!!! As a celiac person, I've been following modern bread and bagels for about a year, so when I finally had the chance to visit, I was in absolute heaven! I tried the grilled cheese for breakfast, the simple bagel with blueberry cream cheese, and one of their breakfast sandwiches on an everything bagel. I wish I could go back every day, it was SO GOOD. I was also with someone who wasn't gluten-free, and they had rave reviews too!

Our favorite stop during our week in New York. This place is amazing! You wouldn't even know that these freshly baked bagels are gluten-free, and the sandwich + the toppings are so fantastic! The egg salad is to die for and the tuna is great. I can't wait to go back!
