Food was absolutely delicious and the service just as great. Dishes were authentic and made with care. Everything from appetizers, main dishes to the desserts were excellent.

I came for gluten-free pasties, including the pastel do nata. But the Indonesian food was all gluten-free and spectacularly good. I particularly like the Pastel Goring appetizer. It was a small meat-and-vegetable pie in a light, flaky crust, served with a pungent dipping sauce. I could have eaten a dozen for dinner and left happy. But they only serve you two, because the dinner is even better. I had the ribs (Iga Bakar), which came with exotic veggies and rice. Make sure you tell them how hot you want it. They include peppers on a 4-out-of-5 scale. Or you can ask for a little cow milk with coconut milk in it to cool it down. I moved some of the peppers aside to my liking. Pair it with a glass of wine. Finish with a cappuccino and some pastry. Ahhhhhhhh.

I only went to this place for breakfast to try the pastel de nata. The filling was really good and not too sweet, but I was a bit disappointed with the pastry, which wasn't as flaky and crunchy as those made with gluten. Overall, I recommend it, even for takeout.

We came here for the gluten-free pastéis de natas, but it turns out that all of their pastries are gluten-free! Get there soon after it opens and the natas are fresh out of the oven and still warm! After a week in Portugal these were the first GF natas that I was able to find and definitely worth the wait. If you're on a gluten-free diet and in search of a custard tart experience while in Lisbon, I highly recommend this place!

A really great find in Lisbon, Portugal. I am Celiac and went on a quest for a GF eatery. Wow Traditional Portugese egg tarts was just the start. (Nata) We ordered appetizer of Pastel Goreng as a starter followed by Ayan Penyet for myself and Kwetiav Goreng with prawns for my husband. Also a side of Terong Balado as a side. My husband said he could have enjoyed more spice in his dish. There were options to have spicier sauce. We enjoyed a nice glass of white wine and Pandan cheese cake for dessert. The passion fruit sorbet with the dessert was amazing. All in all I can only say 5 star for our gluten free community and your friends can join you without sacrificing flavors by eating gluten free along with you. Wonderful experience Also should mention that one young woman handled the whole front end as well as walk in traffic. The place seats approximately 36 guests. We were not kept waiting and service was with a smile. Bill... 65 euro for all

We decided to treat ourselves to an Indonesian meal in Lisbon, and I don't think you can find a better place. Great food, excellent service (the waitress spoke great English), and a lovely atmosphere. Generous portions but not excessive, with a lot of attention for celiacs. Highly recommended.

I booked 4 pasteis de nata over the phone (out of fear of not arriving on time, as I was on a trip to Sintra). They are exceptional!!! Gluten-free and lactose-free. I asked if they had any bread, but (honestly) the girl told me it was frozen. I also bought a slice of coconut cake. Thank you for allowing me to taste a delicacy after days of hearing my travel companions rave about how good the pasteis de nata are. Super!!

In the past, it was a pastry shop known by the name "Zarzuela"; now it is an Indonesian restaurant called "Bali do Cais" located near Praca Europa. The owners, very kind and helpful, have maintained the ACP certification (Association of Portuguese Coeliacs). In addition to gluten-free options, they also offer vegan and lactose-free alternatives on their menu. My family and I stopped by this place after dinner to try their pasteis de nata, which, unlike the original ones with gluten, had a shortcrust pastry base. I found them good and delicate. The venue is very nice, and the service is quick. It's the perfect place to stop for breakfast or to organize a brunch.

I went to this place because it was gluten-free, and it actually had a wide choice. Too bad there was a fly in the rice!!!! And when I pointed it out to the waitress, she took the fly and brought it to the kitchen, but she didn't even give me a discount for the inconvenience. The dessert was okay, but it lost all points because of the insect.

Before my trip to Lisbon, as a celiac, I looked for places to eat gluten-free before leaving. I found and wanted to try this place, which was formerly called zarzuela (in fact, it’s still there in the header of the receipt). My idea, from what I read, was to come here for a snack with coffee. This place was praised in all the reviews I read from gluten-free bloggers as an amazing place. I don’t know how it was before, but now it has become an Indonesian restaurant that seems to have wanted to maintain the Portuguese gluten-free certification (like the Italian AIC), offering gluten-free desserts and a coffee area. To be honest, it didn’t make me go WOW. It was 3 PM on a Sunday, we entered and it was completely empty, which made me think that it probably does better at lunch or dinner. I came here chasing my desire to try the gluten-free pastel de nata (in the photo) that they offer gluten and lactose-free. I believe that unlike the gluten one, which looks like it has a crunchy flaky base, this one had a shortcrust base without butter, as I could taste, and a bit “doughy,” I’d say... not crispy. The filling was good. Overall, though, it was pleasant, considering it might not be easy to make it gluten-free. I don’t know, but it made me want to try making it at home... a personal challenge! My daughter had the mango cheesecake, which I didn’t taste due to the lactose. My partner had the coconut cake, which was good; I’d also like to replicate that at home, as it’s a flavor that can easily be replicated homemade. We paired it with two American coffees that were actually not very good. We spent 19 euros... maybe a bit much, a slice of cake for 4.50... I understand that maybe they use different ingredients, but I don’t know if it’s more expensive than the non-gluten-free. It was worth the experience because for me as a celiac, it’s always nice to find an alternative... however, as I said at the beginning, they maintained that gluten-free part because zarzuela pastelería had a good reputation before, but the counter with the gluten-free items seems a bit stuck there by chance. Nice environment for the decor, indeed in an oriental style, just like an Indonesian restaurant. I don't know if I would go back... maybe it deserves a second try for the dishes...

Exceptional gluten-free bar restaurant! We had a pastel de nata, a pão de deus, and a brioche with doce de ovos, all gluten-free and delicious!! Very kind staff. Pleasant atmosphere. The place is located in the same spot where the Zarzuela used to be.
