Overall, we enjoyed our evening. Ambience and service were excellent. We felt very welcome. However, there were a few things they could improve to bring it up to 5 stars. Some background - this is a fairly grand old-style dining experience with linen tablecloths, napkins, formally dressed waiters etc. We didn't order a lot - some of us had the fixed price menu and we only had a bottle and a glass of wine. It still cost £65 a head, so although that was expected you need to be prepared to spend that as a minimum for dinner. One of our party was gluten intolerant. They had a VERY good experience. The Delaunay dealt with their needs with efficiency and respect. Brilliant. Here's what they could do better: * The excellent service vanished after 10pm, possibly a shift change or something - it would be good to ensure our table was covered. * Food was good to very good, but not great. Two main dishes were poor (dry venison and over salted curry). At this level, there's no excuse for that. Vegetable sides were like something you'd get in a cheap hotel 40 years ago. * Wine and water glasses were the same The waiters had to ask every time which was which.

My partner bought me a Theatre experience including dinner for 2 at The Delaunay. We are Vegans, so we emailed & called in advance to confirm that would be ok. On arrival, we were offered the regular menu / Gluten Free menu (they also have a specific children’s menu) - but no Vegan menu. We were offered a “chopped salad & 1 main”. Honestly my heart sank. Our Server “Ged” saw how disheartened we were. So he spoke with the chef who agreed they need to create more Vegan options. They created us 2 starters, 2 mains & 2 desserts - which were AMAZING. And they said they would be discussing a Vegan menu for ‘environmentally conscious consumers’. 100% saved by Ged - he was kind, understanding, took time to help & entirely saved our experience. Thank you. 🙏

Nice atmosphere, good service and lovely cocktails, but I wasn’t blown away by the food. My Crab starter was the highlight, but the mackerel fillet was disappointing. It was cooked well but was all a little too bland. The beetroot gremolata had initially a good flavour with a kick of horseradish but there was just too much of it and was a quite slimy and sickly. The whole dish felt unbalanced. As coeliac, it was nice to be offered gluten free bread, but it would have been a nicer touch if the bread was homemade or better quality than sliced white toast.
