I've generally heard good things about Brown's and their gluten-free offerings, but their location in Wilmslow was disappointing for me, and I was disappointed by the quality of the food in particular. I appreciated being able to get a table on a Saturday without a prior reservation The atmosphere feels fancy and more suited to groups of four or less. They have made it look nice with some subtle differences from when this building was operated by Miller and Carter. Ordering from the set menu, I went for the Steak Frites as my main; the steak was really tough, even though I went for medium, which another member of my party also complained about. The fries were under-seasoned, and the Béarnaise sauce had a rather unpleasant aftertaste. For my drink, I went for the Apple and Fig Martini, as I had a free festive cocktail in my loyalty app. This was an interesting combination, and it wasn't too bad - but I wouldn't order it again, and I'd rather go for something more traditional. The service was good, with a service charge added onto the bill at the end - the servers had good awareness of allergens and also handed me a tablet with further information to go alongside the gluten-free menu provided. I did send some feedback to the restaurant after my visit, and they seemed understanding and apologetic, so I do plan to return in the future to try out some different dishes and hopefully be able to update my review then.
