The food here is always excellent, I've genuinely never had a bad meal. Everything we've ordered has been consistently good, and it's somewhere I always look forward to visiting. The reason I've marked this review down is because we visited for my wife's birthday. When making the booking, I mentioned how much she loves the mac and cheese, it was genuinely one of the main reasons we chose to come. We've visited several times before and typically spend well over £100 each visit. When booking, I made a small request, asking whether it might be possible to surprise her with a complimentary bowl of mac and cheese for her birthday. It wasn't an expectation, just something I thought would have been a thoughtful gesture. On the day, our server acknowledged all of the notes I'd made on the booking, including dietary requirements such as lactose intolerance and gluten sensitivity, so I know the booking notes had been read. However, there was no mention of the birthday request at all. We still ordered and happily paid for the mac and cheese, as we always would, but it felt like a missed opportunity to create a memorable experience for a returning customer. Perhaps my expectations were too high, and I appreciate businesses can't fulfil every request. That said, when you're a repeat customer spending +£100 each visit (just 2 people), small gestures of goodwill can go a long way in building customer loyalty. This experience won't necessarily stop me from returning because the food is genuinely fantastic, but I will probably adjust my expectations when it comes to that personal touch in the future.
