The lady at the reception needed help because she didn’t know how to communicate with the customer. I politely asked her if she spoke English, since I cannot communicate in German. Because I cannot pronounce German words properly, I pointed to the bread with my finger. She immediately asked me to put my finger down and warned me that it is rude to point at food with your finger. I am a person with dark-pigmented skin, and she also said that in Switzerland and Europe people usually do not point at food using their hands. Having prejudice is her problem, not mine. However, I felt very uncomfortable with the way she handled the situation. Even though pointing at the food with my finger may have been wrong on my part, I would have accepted it if she had explained it with genuine kindness, but she didn’t do that. I hope she finds peace within herself.

I'm genuinely relieved to see that you are now hiring young, attentive and kind staff. That is the only reason I decided to come back! For a long time, the owner's behavior was consistently rude, dismissive and openly unpleasant. At first, I assumed it might have been because I don't speak German or Swiss German fluently. I later realized that it wasn't about language so much, it was just the way she treats customers. I have worked in hospitality and customer service for over ten years, so I understand exactly what certain gestures and attitudes mean and I always make a conscious effort to be a respectful and uncomplicated customer. It was particularly frustrating because this is the only gluten-free bakery in Basel and for someone with celiac disease, that makes it a very important place. The products are truly excellent. You can tell that whoever is baking really knows what they're doing. The quality, flavor and texture are outstanding and it's clear that a lot of skill and care goes into the preparation. It was painful to see such good work overshadowed by such poor front-of-house treatment. Now that the service is being handled by nice people who are happy to switch languages, answer questions and treat customers with basic courtesy, I sincerely hope the business thrives. The products deserve it ❤️

Terrible and mean sales lady, seems to be full of anger and repressed emotions. I felt very very uncomfortable. I hope she finds a way to heal herself, can't imagine how this must feel on a daily basis. Bread is nice, confectionery could be better.

This is a beautiful place in Basel for gluten free food. I have coeliac disease and therefore get very ill if I consume gluten. The lady here (and I am sorry I meant to ask for your name) was extremely helpful, kind, and explained everything very well and thoroughly with what to expect from what the food contained. The food was exceptional - I had a sandwich and a plum crumble which I highly recommend to fellow coeliacs. Please visit when you are in Basel and are after guaranteed gluten free food 😊. I will definitely revisit again when I come back to Basel.

An absolute gem in Basel! As someone with celiac disease, it’s such a relief to walk into a place like Glutenfreie Köstlichkeiten GmbH and know that everything is 100% gluten-free — no stress, no worries, just total confidence that the owners and staff truly understand what that means. The young fellow who served us was so kind and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious, full of flavor and beautifully made. Prices were fair, portions generous, and we left feeling both happy and genuinely impressed. It’s rare to find a fully gluten-free bakery this good anywhere. Highly recommend, whether you’re gluten-free or not!
