I had an exceptional experience my first time at Browns by the Tower Bridge today. First of all, as a woman dining solo, too often at restaurants i have.been treated like a less valuable customer and steered to worse quality seating when somewhere nicer is available. The hostess took me to exactly the seat i had spotted that would feel nicest to be in. I was prepared to ask (yes, american) but didn’t need to. That set a very good tone. The menu was a bit different than i’d seen on the website, seasonal changes etc. There were enough things that sounded really appealing that i had a hard time deciding. Also, i have an intolerance to bell peppers, so i always have to check ingredients carefully, and in general i really like as much info as possible to know what my food will have in it. So you can imagine my delight when instead of having to run back and forth to the kitchen and keep track of questions, my awesome waiter Alex brought me the “Allergy Tablet” - it’s a new thing there apparently. It lists every item on the menu with top allergens, and you can tap through for a complete list of ingredients. No more taking everyone’s time and risking mishaps with understanding or communication - this system eliminates the middleman, and lets people like me get all the detail our hearts desire without trying to restrict questions to try not to be annoying. For kids - and adults - on the spectrum, those with many kinds of dietary/eating issues, for anyone who has trouble deciding what they want or worries whether they’ll like something they haven’t tried before? This is the thing. I had the rhubarb martini, requesting gin instead of vodka, which was delightful, and the vegan miso aubergine main, which was really delicious. I usually want something more filling, but it sounded good, i wanted room for a dessert (hard to decide between at least 3 of them), and - Alex mentioned to me that on weekdays there are some other menus in the afternoon/early evening that are fantastic deals, and all the other things i was tempted by were on one or both of those, so eggplant it was and i did not regret it. I definitely want to go back this week while i’m staying across the river for at least one of the afternoon/early evening menus. And maybe their Afternoon Tea! It’s an easy walk across Tower Bridge, and the outside seating (which i seek out) was very pleasant - covered, heaters available, no loud music blaring like some of the other places i walked by to get there. For dessert i had the lemon & elderflower posset. Lemon posset with maybe some elderflower, and an elderflower sorbet. Really light and well balanced, very pleasant. Not too sweet. If you’re not sure you have room for dessert, you’ll manage this one and be glad you did. Another dessert i hope to try there is the chocolate torte with blackcurrant sorbet. In the US we get some rhubarb things but most of the time overly sweetened by strawberries. The UK likes rhubarb a lot more and when i’m here i indulge in as many rhubarb things as possible. Blackcurrant is extremely rare on US menus and in products, whereas here there’s blackcurrant drinks, yogurts, mousse, and for the win, sorbets. I’m really looking forward to theirs later this week after some caesar salad or steak frites, which based on what i experienced today l expect to be delightful. Kudos again to the excellent Alex, and to the whole operation.

We had a lovely tea in the outdoor seating. Gluten free options were not lacking, and everyone had a good time.

Brilliant night - service from Alex was great! He was lovely and very friendly! Gluten free menu was good- being coeliac you never really know if the place is safe for you to eat in- but I felt very happy here!

Had an amazing lunch today at this restaurant. We ordered from the festive menu. My aunt has a couple of food intolerances and the staff were amazing and worked hard to find her something she could eat. From the moment we arrived until we left the staff were really attentive and looked after our family group well. The views out over the Thames were lovely. We will definitely be back.

We had a wonderful meal here. My parents and I have rather different expectations for restaurants and this place was just perfect for us all as a group- with something for all of us to eat, including a gluten-free vegetarian! Caitlin and the other staff were all so lovely, not over-bearing and ‘in your face’ but polite, funny and very good at their jobs. And as a rather neurodivergent family this place was such a pleasant escape from the loudness of London, thank you.

One of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. When we got there it took about 20 minutes to even order drinks, then we ordered drinks and food at the same time because we wanted to order straight away. I asked for a chicken Sunday roast, and asked for it gluten free. As they were removing 3 items (Yorkshire pudding, bread sauce and stuffing) I asked for my Yorkshire pudding to be put on a side plate for my partner to eat. The waitress said this wasn’t possible and my partner had to pay for an extra one. Every other place I’ve gone for Sunday lunch has been able to do this. They also had a promotion on where you could get a free complimentary cocktail, we clarified the offer was available with the waitress and shower her the voucher so she could check and she said yes. So the food came, my friend ate about two mouthfuls of her food and we didn’t get any check back so she didn’t have the opportunity to say anything so when the waitress came to clear she couldn’t be bothered with the faff so saying it was bad, it was clearly not nice at all considering how much she left. Then the waitress went to get the bill and told us that as we had 20% off we couldn’t get the complimentary cocktail anymore. That was it, there was no apology she just came over and told us we couldn’t. All of these things in isolation would have been found but the lack of service and terrible attitude from the waitress just really put us in a bad mood. The whole point of us coming here was to try to have a cheapish dinner out and it ended up very expensive. We will definitely not be going again.

A nice location on the Thames. The food is good pub quality, so nothing fantastic. They brought the wrong main course for my wife, but they were very apologetic, fixed the issue very quickly and gave us a free drink, so good service. I had crab on toast, followed by a Caesar Salad. Finished off with cheese and biscuits. All OK. My wife needs gluten free and thought there were good options and really enjoyed the apple crumble dessert.

We had a lovely meal at Browns Butler's Wharf. We were very well looked after by Alex, who provided exceptional service. As someone with an allergy, I had lots of gluten free options available to me and felt safe eating due to the coeliac UK accreditation. My food came out with a flag so I knew it had been handled with care. I highly recommend the duck with beetroot, it was absolutely delicious and a real stand out meal!
