Tempura Asakusa (THE CITY Asakusa Kaminarimon 7F) was such a special find, especially as a gluten-free traveler. We had one vegetarian omakase and one fish omakase (5 courses each), and the first three courses were the same for both. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. As someone with gluten intolerance, I was over the moon to eat tempura again. The entire restaurant is dedicated gluten-free and is listed on the Find Me Gluten Free app, and I felt completely confident eating here. I also felt very confident in the vegetarian meal as they used a separate broth and even a different soy sauce without fish products, and the staff clearly understood every ingredient they were serving. The chef and staff were incredibly kind and engaging. The chef invited us to participate throughout the meal: a little “cheers” moment with our hot ginger tea and a fun, enthusiastic presentation when she revealed the smoked squid/eel. She carefully explained how to eat each piece, which sauces to pair with which tempura, and when to use the different salts. It felt intentional, welcoming, and very professional. You can tell they take pride in their work. The space is intimate (about 10 counter seats), warm, and thoughtfully designed with wood tones, cherry blossoms, coat hooks, and even phone chargers. It’s about 100 feet from Asakusa Station Exit 2, on the 7th floor. We walked in at 1pm on a Tuesday and luckily got the last two seats, but others had reservations. We stayed about 1.5–2 hours and paid under $100 total for two full omakase courses, which felt like a good value for the quality and care. If you’re gluten-free (or vegetarian) and want a delicious, beautifully executed tempura experience in Tokyo, this place is absolutely worth visiting.

Some of the most amazing food I’ve ever had. It’s all gluten free too! Even the soy sauce. If visiting in late February try the ginger tea. We had the sea food tempura, and wagyu. Both were amazing but the wagyu was the star of the show. The staff were friendly, the bathroom and ambiance were beautiful and the food was perfect.

The staff were SO friendly and very helpful with explaining the dishes. The tempura was incredible - it wasn't overly battered like you find elsewhere, the perfect amount of batter. The dashi tea was one of the best that I've ever had. The portions were extremely generous yet you still didn't feel heavy after the meal since everything is gluten free. 10/10 can't wait to come back ♥️
