Inappropriate, I went in to ask if they had gluten-free meringues, and since they didn't, they advised me to buy them at the supermarket because "there's no gluten; at most they're made in contaminated environments and contain traces of gluten but are still fine for those with celiac disease." I can admit ignorance among "ordinary" people on the subject, but from someone who works in a "specialized" gluten-free store, it's unacceptable.
