La Soffitta Renovatio offers a wide selection of Roman cuisine dishes and gluten-free pizzas, enhanced by a special attention to customers with celiac disease. Despite some differing opinions, the restaurant is appreciated for its central location and generous portions.

everything excellent
2
a certified local cuisine, but I would have expected a bit more authenticity; it seemed very commercial. Gluten-free dishes that are unremarkable and lack praise.
5
The AIC-certified place is very close to the Vatican. I've been back several times to try more dishes, and I must say I've never been disappointed. The staff is very knowledgeable about gluten-free options, and all the waiters are friendly!
5
Delicious!!!! Knowledgeable and kind staff. I had the oxtail with GF focaccia bread. My son had the squid and shrimp and said it was the best he ever had; and it was GF! This would be a must stop for me!
5
This restaurant is perfect for those with allergies. The waiters will ask if you have any allergies before placing your order and they'll place a little flag on your food signifying it's gluten-free in our case. The majority of the menu is gluten-free and we tried the pizza which was delicious. Lactose free options were available, too. The order arrived fast considering how busy the restaurant was outside and inside.
5
First day in Rome after a long travel day. Went for a walk once we checked into our hotel and found this little spot not far from the Vatican walls. We were all starving. Great gluten green options. The food and service were both excellent! Wonderful first food experience in Rome that wasn’t scheduled in advance.
5
My favorite place in Rome! They can make the whole menu gluten free, everything was amazing, I’ve already been there twice and would come back all the time. The food is delicious and the staff is so nice and enthusiastic, a must for everyone, specially people with celiacs or gluten allergies.
4
excellent quality of leavened products, the fried food is very good, the ricotta with honey and pistachios is a spectacle. very good and of the highest quality! the staff is super polite and knowledgeable. we will definitely return. the desserts could be improved a little bit.
5
We got in to Rome late afternoon and wanted a light evening meal with a nice atmosphere. Found this lovely gem of a place right near the Vatican museum. Every dish on the menu can be made gluten free and homemade. We had gluten free pizza which was really tasty and the service was very good indeed. Had to give a good review as we were so pleased with their service and GF flexible menu. If only restaurants in the UK were as accommodating with gluten free options rather than one dish here and there!!
5
Without mincing words, the best gluten-free pizza I've ever eaten. The other menu offerings are also interesting.
5
Very good Roman dishes with a wide gluten-free selection. Very attentive and precise with orders. Very kind and well-prepared staff.

Once upon a time, in an enchanted corner of the city, there was a place capable of transforming a simple dinner into a fairytale to tell for a lifetime: La Soffitta Renovatio. On March 1, 2024, I crossed its threshold with my heart full of emotion: it was the day of my graduation. With me were my wonderful family and my two little great loves, Matilde and Anthony, with eyes full of light and smiles ready to explode like confetti of happiness. It was not just a dinner: it was an important chapter of my story beginning to be written among the aromas of the oven and sincere laughter. As soon as we entered, we were welcomed by a warm atmosphere, enveloping like a hug. The dim lights seemed like stars complicit in the evening, and in the air danced the fragrance of freshly baked pizza, capable of making eyes sparkle even before tasting it. And then they arrived, the protagonists: wonderful pizzas, colorful as an artist's palette and fragrant as freshly written poetry. Every bite was an explosion of taste, a perfect balance between dough, toppings, and passion. The varied dishes were superb, carefully crafted in detail, generous and rich in flavor. For me, who is celiac, gluten-free pizza was truly magical. Not just a simple alternative, but a masterpiece: soft, tasty, incredibly good. One of those experiences that makes you finally feel included, pampered, understood. In that moment, I was not “the one who has to be careful,” but simply a happy honoree, with an amazing pizza before my eyes. And like in every good fairytale, there was also a special character: friendly, professional, attentive, capable of making us feel at home with a timely joke and genuine care for every detail. A precious presence that made the evening even brighter. Amidst toasts, smiles, stories, and the proud looks of my family, Pizzeria Renovatio became the castle where I celebrated a realized dream. And while my grandchildren laughed happily, I understood that certain moments are unforgettable: they are kept in the heart, like the most beautiful pages of a fairy tale. If you are looking for a place where taste meets the soul, where even gluten-free pizza can become extraordinary and where every special occasion turns into magic… this is your fairytale waiting to be lived. ✨

I didn't think that as a celiac I could allow myself a fried fish dish, supplì, fried pizza, and fried vegetables—a triumph of normality for me, a happiness I haven't felt in a long time. I highly recommend it, also for the price, really excellent! Finally, they allowed us to have dinner with our little dog and even brought her water ❤️ that's not a small thing...
5
A place close to St. Peter's, excellent service and food both gluten-free and regular! In particular, the gluten-free focaccia is very good and very soft. The staff is very kind and welcoming. Highly recommended if you go to St. Peter's. We were truly enthusiastic!!
5
Restaurant offering typical Roman dishes gluten-free. Delicious artichoke and carbonara, even the pizza looked good, although I didn't taste it. Very attentive and knowledgeable staff, fast but precise service. Gluten-free dishes are marked with a flag when brought to the table to avoid confusion.
5
Fantastic dishes of Roman tradition.
5
Restaurant trattoria with a pizzeria located near St. Peter's Square. Excellent cuisine, very honest prices, huge portions, and very friendly and nice staff. Dishes can all be ordered gluten-free upon request, and they will be served with a little flag on top to differentiate them. We had a mixed fry and a very good carbonara, and we were very full! We will definitely return to try all the other specialties.
5
Excellent food and the option to order most dishes on the menu in a gluten-free version. Prices are slightly above average, but highly recommended for enjoying traditional Roman dishes without worries.
5
Good morning, we had lunch yesterday, we had a great time, hospitality, service, and quality of the dishes, especially my wife who, being gluten intolerant, had a fantastic carbonara!!!
4
Celiac friends, we can finally go wild with fried food! Not to mention the carbonara, it's amazing! Generous portions. All dishes on the menu can be made GF.
5
Exceptional gluten-free lunch! Everything was delicious. Honest prices for the local delights. The staff are very attentive and quick, but most of all, friendly; we were served by Irene and Fausto, fantastic waiters who are super professional yet humorous in their service. I don’t know if they are, but they could be a lovely couple :)
5
Everything was very good! We tried both gluten-free carbonara and gricia, and it has nothing to envy to other places. Very honest price, even though it is in a central location, very close to the Vatican. I will definitely come back!
5
The ideal place for celiacs - attention and care for gluten-free options and absolute friendliness from the staff. Wide variety, especially for local specialties :-) Reservation and homemade first courses are recommended.
5
Excellent food, friendly staff, and special attention for those who need to eat gluten-free. Congratulations, my son was very happy to eat a delicious carbonara. The other items we tasted were also delightful. It will definitely be a place we return to if we make another trip to Rome.
4
Wide selection of gluten-free dishes. They are served with a flag that distinguishes them from regular dishes. Recommended.
4
Lovely location, central, perfect for a walk to St. Peter's after eating. Very good food, all fried dishes are gluten-free, pasta can be made with and without gluten. Huge selection for us celiacs 😍
5
The staff is kind and helpful, knowledgeable and attentive to every customer request and ready to fulfill it. The service is quick yet precise, and nothing is overlooked. All gluten-free dishes are well marked, and all appetizers and main courses are gluten free! The first courses are amazing, with well-prepared dishes and top-quality ingredients, not to mention the desserts: a treat!
5
A characteristic locale where tradition blends with modernity while remaining within the realm of good Roman cuisine. There are many strong points, including efficient and knowledgeable service thanks to the attentive and competent staff who serve promptly and provide experienced recommendations. The wood-fired pizza oven – saying it's excellent would be an understatement, including gluten-free options and takeout. A kitchen staff ready to prepare delicious pasta dishes and tempting second courses, led by a chef who knows his craft. The ownership manages the locale both inside and outside with care and experience, treating the numerous customers with the warmth and courtesy they deserve, having the privilege of being guests at a reputable Roman location.
3
All in all, the carbonara was good but very dry, and the glasses smelled really bad. What a shame. The choice, however, is very wide.
5
gluten-free white focaccia and carbonara TOP. Recommended for celiacs and non-celiacs...
5
Roman tripe, oxtail stew, carbonara, cacio e pepe, saltimbocca, delicious desserts. Historic venue with Fausto as the star. Gluten-free focaccia with oil is truly top-notch 🔝
5
Owner, staff, location, cleanliness, friendliness, pizzas, amatriciana, desserts........ if I could, I would give 10 stars ....... super gluten-free
4
I had a gricia GF, not bad.
5
Everyone was super kind, but Fausto and Irene are unique!!!! Excellent pasta with gluten and gluten-free, and the sweet ricotta and pistachio dessert is amazing and gluten-free! The food is divine, and we had a wonderful time. We'll come back soon, and big greetings to Irene and Fausto from Valencia!!! Thank you so much for your kindness!!
5
Food, location and service were very great. Gluten free dishes are really delicious and tasty! The waiters, Fausto and Fabrizio, have been very careful during our dinner. The calzone with ricotta and spicy salami is one of their best dishes!
1
Kind staff but truly terrible food! The lamb was so tough I couldn't even cut it! I do not recommend it.
5
Varied menu with homemade cuisine (pizza, first and second courses). I enjoyed the ricotta and spinach ravioli and an excellent chocolate cake. The gluten-free dish is marked with a little flag (a nice idea). Highly recommended!
5
We ate STRABENE. Fabrizio is a delightful and kind person who was able to advise us during both the first and second dinner. What can I say? And if you have friends with celiac issues, come here; they will thank you! Because perhaps for the first time, they will not feel like aliens at dinner. Try it to believe it. Roman artichoke and wonderful first courses that respect tradition (even the gluten-free dishes, I assure you, I saw my friend in ecstasy). We will definitely return.
5
Great place with a gluten-free menu featuring classic Roman dishes and more. As a celiac, I experienced the joy of being able to share dishes with the other diners. The fried foods and the carbonara were excellent. Friendly staff. Recommended!
5
I have intolerances to gluten, dairy, and eggs, and I found the recommendation for this restaurant in the Facebook group 'Celiac Disease Rome'. It did not disappoint! I couldn't give less than 5 stars because it was a true joy to eat fried foods: in other places I always have to avoid them. Not only could I enjoy them, they were DELICIOUS!!! The eggplant and zucchini sticks were like smarties, one led to another. The pizza fritters were amazing. The croquettes were crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside. I ordered the vegetarian pizza without cheese and ate it all. The dough was light, crispy on the edges, well-cooked (not raw), and topped with grilled vegetables, it was really tasty. The waiter was very friendly and attentive; as soon as we finished our appetizers, we didn’t have to wait long for the pizzas to arrive. The dessert showcase is a work of art that I could also indulge in, as I could choose from even 3 different options! They also have 3 types of gluten-free beer! Definitely worth a return visit when we are in the San Pietro area.
3
..right in Piazza Risorgimento..I ate outside..the interior is a bit old, pleasant food but the prices are too high..I don't think I will return, but it is certainly very central.
4
3 minutes walk from Saint Peter's, very kind staff, prices for the second courses a bit high for the portions (salmon with potatoes 22€ I expected a slightly bigger slice of salmon!), but for the first courses and pizzas the prices and portions are good. All fried items are gluten-free! SUPER desserts!!!
4
Excellent Roman cuisine with almost all dishes on the menu gluten-free. The pizza is also very good.
4
Delicious pizza!
5
A paradise for celiacs! An extremely positive experience, every dish is also available gluten-free, and the fried foods are exclusively gluten-free to ensure greater safety in managing cross-contamination. I ate with a non-celiac, who assured me that the quality of the fried foods was equal to, if not superior to, those containing gluten found elsewhere. Special mention for the fried pizzette and fried zucchini flowers, as well as for the pasta alla Gricia, one of the best I’ve ever tasted in Rome! Generous portions and appropriate for the price (47 euros for two appetizers, two main courses, a dessert, and water), suitable both for the location (a 6-minute walk from St. Peter's Square) and the extremely high quality. Another point in favor is the staff members, very attentive and kind, as well as friendly! We will definitely return, and I would recommend it to non-celiacs as well!
5
I ate very well, there is a wide choice on the gluten-free menu, and the desserts are excellent too. I recommend this place for anyone like me who is in Rome for a short vacation.
3
We booked with friends in this place because they had a gluten-free option for our celiac friend. The restaurant is average in terms of location; we were seated inside because the outside area is right on the street and the sidewalk. We ordered a shared appetizer and then a first course each. The appetizer arrived at the end of the meal and the main courses came after more than an hour of waiting, and they even got two out of five dishes wrong: we received two cacio e pepe instead of two grice....the service really left something to be desired. However, I must say that my amatriciana was good, so I give it credit.
5
My heart's place in Rome. Personal and fantastic food. In my opinion, there is no other place in Rome that makes a better gluten-free pizza.
5
strategic location in the center, excellent dishes and friendly and nice staff. generous portions and truly good and tasty dishes! I recommend it
5
5 well-deserved stars. Quick lunch with my girlfriend before entering the Vatican Museums. We wanted something quick without spending too much. The waiters, as well as the owner, were very friendly from the start, served us quickly, and provided all the information regarding gluten-free options. We had two appetizers and two carbonara dishes + 2 coffees and two bottles of water. Total: €38. Delicious pizzelles and amazing suppli! 😍 Highly recommended! Well done!!!✌🏽

What a shame! We were here this evening for a friend's birthday. The evening went from bad to worse. The waiter, instead of bringing the gluten-free beer menu, preferred to bring us a dozen bottles on the table for us to choose from. Always the same waiter, while we were eating the fried items, he took the plate with the supplì, threw it into the plate of fried pizza, and took the plate away. I asked for the fried pizza without cheese and they brought it with vegan cheese; I'm not sure if that was the waiter's or the chef's choice. There were seven of us, and the main courses arrived in this order: for two people 20 minutes after the appetizers, for another two 40 minutes after, and for three, they never arrived. Only one gluten-free pizza was requested, but two arrived because they had messed up the order. My friend went to the cash register to ask for explanations and the only thing they managed to say was "I'm sorry." Terrible, terrible, terrible!

I had lunch on Friday, April 22nd, with my family at this place just a stone's throw from St. Peter's Basilica. I admit I chose it because I needed a gluten-free meal for one of my daughters who is celiac, and the fact that it was located near a tourist spot had prepared me to pay a hefty bill. However, not only was the food both WITH and WITHOUT GLUTEN excellent (I had spectacular tagliolini with artichokes), but the bill was very reasonable. Added to this are the friendliness and kindness of the owners and staff who paid great attention to accommodate my daughter. What can I say, we will surely return on our next trip to Rome, especially since one of the waiters invited my daughter to watch the Roma game with him and his son :-)
5
We dined at the venue for two consecutive nights with two adults and four children. The staff was exquisite and helpful, well beyond simple (though excellent) professionalism. On the second night, we arrived in the rain with the little boy crying, and even though we hadn't made a reservation, they went out of their way to find us a place (and what a place!)... Not only that, since it was also our 7-year-old daughter's birthday, they helped us improvise a little celebration by putting a candle we had brought on a dessert and singing 'happy birthday' to her... small details that make a huge difference. As for the dishes, we were able to taste the fried foods (supplì and potato croquettes), the carbonara and amatriciana pasta (also gluten-free, exceptional), the pizzas (the gluten-free ones were of a level superior to any we had tasted before), the lamb with fried artichokes, the desserts... It is also possible to eat outside, and the venue is AIC certified for a gluten-free diet.

What makes a place a unique experience to remember... Is it the excellent food? The structure of the place? Its decorations? The photos and paintings? The kindness of the staff? The owners and their managerial skills? Maybe, sometimes I would settle for just one of these characteristics, but with La Soffitta, there are all of them! The menu is fantastic, as is the well-prepared and fresh food; those who prepare it have golden hands, but those who guide, support, and teach them the craft of a lifetime are even more so! What a history they have behind them, how much they know, and how many things they can do—they learned from their mother, and now the two of them follow the path of pleasing people with Roman food and more! What I really liked is that they were the first in Rome to start gluten-free options back in 1994 because no one should suffer from a dietary issue; they do everything from A to Z for us celiacs. And with such taste and quality! Then there is the fast yet kind service, with the friendly and enjoyable spirit of someone who wants to leave you with an artistic memory. The place is beautiful, clean, and complete, inside and out. The souls of the two brothers complement each other, the artist and the family man. What style, what history, what pleasure! Definitely worth trying! The prices are reasonable! Its proximity to Castel Sant’Angelo makes it a delightful tourist spot... Try it to believe it!
4
Great Roman cuisine, even though it's a tourist spot. Very good typical first courses! AIC certified with two separate kitchens.
5
It might not be the nicest place in the world (more of a basement than an attic), but the food is good. There is also a wide selection of gluten-free options, and the daily menu is quite extensive. The desserts are excellent as well, all homemade. The service is always very attentive. Prices are average.
5
Certified AIC restaurant. I dined here for two evenings, trying the amatriciana, supplì, pizza, visciole tart, and pistachio bavaria, all gluten-free. My boyfriend, who is not celiac, enjoyed everything just the same. Everything was delicious at more than fair prices just a stone's throw from St. Peter's Square.
5
Delicious pizzas and sweets that are not heavy at all. Great attention to the celiac customer. Wide menu that is practically overlapping with the gluten one.
5
Wonderful place. I'm vegan and gluten intolerant, so I'm used to rarely finding restaurants where I can eat. If there are options, they are often limited and sad; here there's everything! There's an entire vegan menu, from appetizers to main dishes, sandwiches, and pizzas. And everything, I repeat everything on the menu can be made gluten-free (pasta, pizza, bread, supplì, desserts, etc.). For those who are celiac, vegan, or lactose intolerant, this place is amazing. I highly recommend it. Very friendly staff, average prices, top quality. I came to eat here every evening during my vacation in Rome and I leave my heart there. I can't wait to return!
5
It was our reference point during the short stay in Rome. We felt at home from the very first evening. Friendly, professional, and helpful staff. Every dish is a sensory experience that catapults you into the heart of Rome. Gluten-free dishes are marked with a flag, which made me feel confident that there would be no mistakes. The watermelon with lime recommended by one of the owners was also excellent. Highly recommended for all celiacs.
4
Great venue at Piazza Risorgimento in Rome. Excellent value for money, considering the strategic location. I had a fantastic and plentiful mixed fried dish, cooked to perfection and without the excess oil that can sometimes be found. The spaghetti all'Amatriciana was also good, and I want to emphasize that we are talking about gluten-free dishes, like almost the entire menu offer. The waiters were also very kind in their service, super helpful and very quick and attentive. Highly recommended for celiacs in Rome.
4
I am from Arezzo. I went there on Sunday to eat! I had never been there before and being gluten-free, I found this restaurant while searching! The tomato bruschetta was delicious and well-seasoned, and the ravioli with tomato were truly excellent, I would have gladly ordered more! So, gluten-free meals were really good, the only thing was the price. The bill was a bit too expensive for what we had eaten.
5
On Saturday we went to eat at this place we found on the internet. The staff was kind and helpful. The food was excellent, but a special mention goes to the gluten-free dishes. They had a unique flavor, hard to distinguish the gluten-free plates from the others. The flower fritters were exquisite, a rare find for celiacs in restaurants. The gluten-free mini pizzas and pizza were made with an excellent dough; I repeat, it's hard to distinguish gluten-free preparations from the rest of the dishes. We will definitely return. Thank you!
5
really very blond gluten-free pizza
5
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to eat well and spend reasonably 😜. Even those who are celiac can eat without any worries because the restaurant is AIC certified 👌👍. The first courses are excellent: Gricia, Carbonara, and Ravioli; the desserts are exquisite with many varieties to choose from, fantastic cakes. I will definitely return, see you soon.
5
We visited this restaurant, and having a celiac son, our goal was to find something gluten-free for him... to our great surprise, we discovered a fantastic place, excellent food, all gluten-free from appetizer to dessert! Not only gluten-free but of excellent quality!!! Our waiter DAVIDE, fantastic! (Although, honestly, they were all very kind). I would recommend it to all celiacs and non-celiacs, I fell in love with it!!! Rating: 10 and praise😍👏👏
5
I discovered this place thanks to a friend (a fellow traveler passing through Rome) and I must say that they serve a delicious pizza at a great price as well. The dough is incredibly soft, well-risen, and the toppings are excellent. Furthermore, it doesn't make me feel bad the next day, so I absolutely recommend it. The gluten-free pizzas are also great and very similar to the regular ones.
4
The gluten-free pizza was good and the dough was a mix between Neapolitan pizza (too thick for me) and Roman pizza. Soft and digestible. I will return. The waiter was kind and quick, good prices.
1
Unfortunately, I didn't like it at all. I am gluten intolerant, so I opted for the fried foods and gluten-free pizza. Aside from not being good, the worst part is that I had digestive issues at night. I appreciate the staff, who are very kind and patient. It's a pity about the rest ☹
5
Restaurant with gluten-free cuisine just a stone's throw from St. Peter's. The pizza is good (soft, not Roman style) and the service is decent. The desserts (for gluten-free) are a bit less good, but the pizza is truly worth it, both with and without gluten.
5
Excellent pizza, excellent fish, excellent coffee too! Great choice for celiacs and lots of kindness and courtesy. What more could you want? 5 deserved stars!
5
Gluten-free tonnarelli with stracciata burrata and truffle.. I've never eaten pasta as good as this!! Even the pizza and tiramisu (also gluten-free) are amazing!
5
Everything was very good, but above all I tasted the gluten-free pizza taken by my daughter and I can say it's the best gluten-free pizza I've ever eaten; if I hadn't known, I would have said it was a regular pizza. The prices were also fair.
5
The Paradise for celiacs, for those intolerant to gluten. They also have products for those intolerant to lactose. It's needless to say that they are all very knowledgeable about food intolerances. As for gluten-free pizza, no pre-cooked bases; everything is homemade, and it is exquisite! One of the best in Rome! We also had other dishes. Many items on the menu are gluten-free. Even the fried foods! The food is very good, and the staff are kind and friendly. I stumbled upon this place by chance, and it was a wonderful discovery. I will definitely return.
5
Great service and hospitality. Fantastic gluten-free options. After 15 years (They moved from Via dei Villini), I found a wonderful place to eat excellent pizza and more. The Neapolitan pizza here is great, both gluten-free and regular. The one with mozzarella and vegetables is also excellent, cooked to perfection. There are also many first courses, like pasta and beans, pasta and chickpeas, lentil soup with croutons. Even the craft beer is gluten-free.
