I have been a loyal customer of Bar Maroni for years, but my recent visit was frustrating. I ordered a salad without bread and a gluten-free brioche. The staff asked twice if I had allergies, and only after repeated questioning did I mention that I personally prefer gluten-free for comfort, though I have no allergy or intolerance. During my interaction with the manager, it became clear that anyone mentioning gluten is automatically treated as if they have celiac disease. She said customers should “say less” and placed the blame on me. Because of this, my salad was refused, while the gluten-free brioche was served. The strict gluten rule was applied automatically, without considering the actual situation. The staff were polite, and I hope in the future the bar can find a more flexible approach for guests who do not have medical restrictions.
