If you have an allergy, avoid Sottozero. The staff is unprepared and anyway reluctant to the point of rudeness. Moreover, the quality is really low, a gelato lacking craftsmanship.

Can you explain the purpose of being in the AIC circuit if the same spade is used to serve ice cream in cones (with gluten) and in cups? Where would the safety from contamination lie?

Although they claim to be gluten-free, with an AIC certification, the ice cream shop is in a completely contaminated environment with crumbs from normal cones on the ice cream. When I asked for explanations about the contamination (which should not exist in an AIC circuit), I was told: "During the day, contamination is normal; if you want a non-contaminated gluten-free ice cream, go somewhere else"… to say the least embarrassing. Rude staff with no minimum preparation or tact. Reported via the AIC app. It's a shame because the ice cream is good.

I want to share an incident that happened at your ice cream shop at I Gigli. My daughter, who is celiac, went with her mother to get ice cream, and the clerk did not use a separate scoop at all and did not move the layer of ice cream for possible contamination. My daughter informed her that she was celiac and that the correct procedures had not been followed for serving ice cream, to which the clerk sarcastically and annoyed responded, "Come on, what do you mean you're sick!" Only after my wife insisted and offered to pay extra did she decide to follow the right procedure. Celiac disease is a serious condition that should not be underestimated, and I believe that the staff should be informed about the consequences of cross-contamination and apply the criteria established by law and the local health authority, especially since you advertise ice creams that are gluten-free for celiacs.

TOTALLY UNPREPARED staff regarding food allergies and intolerances. I ask the cashier for a cone WITHOUT MILK and I'm told: "sure we have this gluten-free one." When I respond, "Excuse me, but gluten-free is not dairy-free!" I am told that "Sure, this gluten-free one is vegan and I CAN'T READ ALL THE LABELS!!" I make the receipt and ask the clerk for the vegan cone, who looks at me, then looks at the cashier who says: "that one is gluten-free!" Fortunately, a decent selection of flavors without milk is then ensured. I hope you will soon provide a course on food allergies and intolerances to your employees because it seems the minimum to guarantee the safety and health of allergic customers. Update on the response received: If I had been told right at the beginning that the gluten-free was VEGAN (the label on display does not mention vegan) and if the second clerk hadn't looked wide-eyed at the request for a vegan cone, everything would have been OK!! Instead, it seemed like they were grasping at straws just to say something. Fortunately, I do not have a dangerous allergy but someone could have it, and the staff must be properly trained. The response should have been: "We apologize and will do our best to train all staff on food allergies!" Have a good day!
