As someone who has been glutened more times than I can count while traveling through Japan, this meal was genuinely special. This was the first time I’ve had ramen in over 10 years, and it exceeded every expectation. I ordered the Gekka Dandan ramen (spicy sesame–based), and it was outstanding—rich, creamy, deeply flavorful, with just the right amount of heat. The soy milk base was comforting and balanced, not heavy, and absolutely hit the spot. Being able to enjoy ramen again, safely, was honestly emotional. The okara creamy croquettes were also excellent—crispy on the outside, soft and savory inside, and a perfect complement to the ramen. And the cherry on top: a Daura Damm gluten-free lager. Cold, clean, and incredibly refreshing—hard to beat with this meal. If you are gluten-free or celiac and traveling in Kyoto, this place is a must. Thoughtful food, clearly knowledgeable staff, and flavors that don’t feel like a compromise. After a decade without ramen, this is the place that brought it back. 🍜🍺✨ Also and lastly, very quaint and modest spot. No need to get fancy and great!

Gion Uno Yukiko was my very first meal in Japan, so I was both excited and extremely jet-lagged, which probably influenced my expectations a bit. The staff were very polite and welcoming, and while it did take some time for our food to arrive, the ordering system itself was fairly efficient. The food was fine, but not something I would personally go out of my way to return for. What really stood out, though, was that the restaurant is gluten-free — my sister has a gluten allergy and could eat here comfortably without worrying about cross-contamination, which was a huge plus. We were also lucky to get seated right away, as a long queue formed shortly after we left.

Fabulous place. The food is super flavorful and it’s so nice to have a truly gluten free menu. The place is clean, beautifully decorated. The owners are really friendly. The service is great. I love the spices and the descriptions of them at every table. I FINALLY got to try ramen and it’s so delicious! I feel like everything is really healthy here too! 🙏🏻

Wonderful ramen restaurant in the heart of Kyoto. They offer a wide variety of ramen dishes and gyozas and everything is fully vegan and gluten free! The broth is made with soy milk so it’s super creamy and not fishy tasting as it can be at times. The only downside is that the place is pretty small and you can’t reserve so you have to wait quite a long time for dinner in a queue outside. They also don’t have a lot of tables so mainly bar seating. If you want to avoid this, my husband and I went for lunch on one of the days and they were able to seat us immediately so less packed during the day for sure. All in all the best ramen we had in Kyoto!
